B-Live – Happs (Take My Number And Call Me) – SnF’s exclusive look at Dubwise’s summer UK Funky hit

this story

Triple award winning MC B-Live is a well known face on the UK Garage and Drum n Bass (as Evil B) scene. He has entertained crowds for years with his infectious hooks and larger-than-life persona.

In late 2008 B-live hosted on a mix by funky DJ Funk Butcher, showing off B’s unique lyrical flow and Butcher’s seamless mixing. The mix took you on a journey through the biggest tunes of the genre melding UK Funky scene.

Fresh for 2009 B-Live has teamed up with Southern based production duo Dubwise, and produced a slice of sun filled goodness entitled Happs (take my number and call me).

Happs is a summery UK funky tune oozing with influences of Latin American, grime and garage music; fused together over smoking Afro beats and natty killer bongos. B-live laces the track with pure fiya, leaving the line ‘Sexy Sexy, here’s my number, call me, text me’ stuck in your head.

Since the limited promo was sent out it has been tipped by some of the top DJs as this year’s summer holiday anthem.

Roll deep’s Target testified on his BBC 1 Xtra show that if you are going away to Napa this year “Happs is the one for you”.

This positively titled funky riddim has been frequently mashing up the airwaves of Ras Kwame’s show on Radio 1 and DJs on BBC 1Xtra, as well as doing damage in clubland.

Dubwise (Tony and Luke) have had a string of official remixes for major labels; most recently their funky remix of Shontelle and Akon’s Stuck with Each Other and the Bassline remix of Taio Cruz’s Like a Star. SnF spoke to them recently about how their latest collab with clack clacking B-Live came about.

“We sent the dub to Majestic to check out, he really liked it and played it to Boy Better Know’s Skepta who saw potential in it as a single. Skepta then got in touch with B-live” explained Luke from Dubwise. Tony added

“Yeah so B contacted us, we heard his bars and thought they were sick. A week later the tune was finished, a week after it was getting plays on Radio 1.”

“Working with B-live has been great, man”.

Happs is available on limited promo at the the moment. There is no news of a confirmed release date or label on this one yet but its definitely one to watch. Keep checking SnF for details.
