UK Garage at Herbal Nightclub with the Slick n Fresh 1st Birthday Bash

Herbal Nightclub in London’s Shoreditch was booming last night with the sound of UK Garage as the Slick n Fresh 1st Birthday Bash went off with a bang.

The night was filled with the sound of old and new UKG supplied by some of the scene’s best talent. Charma, Control-S, Jelly Beats & Listener kept the crowd going strong ’til the lights came on; complemented with 3 superb live PAs from Lickrish Music’s Gemma Jay, Jelly Beats & Dee, and the fabulous Clare Evers.

It was the perfect way to mark 12 months of Slick n Fresh supplying the best upfront UK garage news, views and downloads.

Thanks to everyone that managed to come down and a special thanks to all those involved; including the talented crew keeping the house music alive on the 2nd floor – Sandeep Chatterjee, Si Sutton, Paul Quinton, DJP, Jose S, MRcSp and Lekkey.

Here’s to another year!

UK Garage on New Years Eve at Harlow Stadium with Simply Garage meets 42TF

The New Year went off with a bang at Harlow Stadium as it was ushered in by The Heartless Crew at Simply Garage. Even though the venue wasn’t at capacity the crowd were going mental as DJ Fonti tore through vintage UK Garage and (strangely deviating from the night’s theme) brought in 2008 with some club classics.

Also on the night we were treated to sets from Streaky & Solution, Mike ‘Ruff Cut’ Lloyd, Whiplash, Burns, the Dreem Team’s Mikee B and of course DJ EZ.

See the first photos from the night over at the Slick n Fresh photo gallery – hopefully with more to come later.

UK Garage music video with Control-S, MC Majestic and Scott Maurice on Never Leave Me Alone

The biggest UK garage video for several years is nearly upon us – and SnF get a first look behind the scenes. See exclusive photos from the video shoot for Conrol-S‘s UKG anthem Never Leave Me Alone.

The bumpy 2-step smasher featuring Scott Mauice & Majestic MC was released as a 12″ back in August 2007 on Control-S’s own label In Ctrl Recordings. It’s since had strong sales and has appeared on the bonus new school disc on the latest Pure Garage release mixed by DJ EZ.

The video looks great and should be available to watch exclusively at SnF very soon.

The vinyl is still available online and in all good record shops. If spinning plastic is not your thing don’t worry; as we’re told that Never Leave Me Alone should be available for digital download on iTunes and all good MP3 services soon!

Review: Simply Garage & more

Below is Martin of Control-S’s review of Simply Garage

We arrived at Rudolphs at around 9:30pm ready for our set at 10. There was already a nice looking cue outside waiting in the rain, with some nice girls looking top notch! After having a brief sound check and a drink, we started as the doors opened and the people came flooding in.

Being the first set, the dancefloor was quiet and needed warming up so we played our way through some of the current biggest tracks and the not-so-obvious old skool anthems. The venue filled up fast and the place was buzzing after a little while! At 11 o clock, Mike ‘Ruff Cut’ Lloyd took over from us and played his way through some of the biggest tunes from back in the day along with MC Majestic on the mic, which the crowd reacted well too.

By about 12 o clock, the dancefloor was rammed and everyone was dancing away, by which time DJ Vibez took to the 1s and 2s. At 12:15, Majestic introduced the first live PA of the night, Four Kornerz – Gonna Make It. Well, the PA was amazing, even if I do say so myself. In the past, i’ve known a lot of PA’s to kill the atmosphere, and the dancefloor, but this was different. The 4 guys turned up with their own sub mixer to accommodate 4 mics, and hooked it up to the main mixer. The energy they gave the track live was awesome, and the dancefloor kept bubbling and the whistles and horns were blowing throughout! The next live PA was MRP’s “Thinkin Bout You”, in which they started giving out free vinyl… Unfortunately, I was the other side of the room and didn’t one =(

At 1am, Funky D stepped up and did what he does best, followed shortly by a live PA of Lickrish Music’s “Over With You” which went down a storm. One of the biggest tracks from 2006, with one of the biggest Garage labels, and an extremely sexy vocalist… Love it!

After a little while, we ventured into the ‘second room’ and witnessed some of the funniest karaoke in a long time! Gotta love that! A little later on, Kanga jumped on the decks and smashed it with a pretty much all new skool selection, which was nice to see the crowd bubbling away to!

We left not long after Kanga’s set and headed for an open Chicken joint on the way home, the standard Control-S end-of-the-night-excursion!

Simply Garage has to be one of the best events I’ve been to in a long time… Not only was the music raw and fresh, it actually felt like a rave from back in the day, and thats something that been missing for a long time! Be sure to check out the next Simply Garage event being held at Harlow Stadium on Saturday 8th July… An all nighter of some of the biggest names in the UK Garage scene, old and new!

Smoove @ Ministry 04/05/07 – Photos

SnF at Smoove

It was another smasher of an evening when SlicknFresh’s intrepid reporters headed down to South London’s Ministry of Sound last night for the latest instalment of Smoove. With a combination of house, RnB, ragga, and of course UK garage; it was a night not to be missed.

Heading up the UKG team was baddest DJ on the circuit DJ EZ and DJ/producer/demi-god Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont. Both played banging sets and had the crowd going WILD.
